Balance Parenthood and Your Small Business with a Virtual Assistant

JLVAS New Blog Images-6 Best Ways to Find the Right Balance Between Your Business and life

Recently, there have been a number of stories in the news that a record number of pregnant women are running for political office, more than at any other point in our country’s history. This absolutely remarkable shift was foreshadowed just a few short months ago when the sitting Prime Minister of New Zealand gave birth to her daughter. Can you imagine being the leader of a country while at the exact same time balancing the responsibilities of being a new parent? For many small business owners out there, it’s easy because they are going through something very similar. It’s time for some work, life balance.

The first few months after you have your baby are stressful enough without having to worry about your small business as well. Whether you are recovering post-birth or are simply sleep-deprived (as all parents are), it may seem almost impossible to find that perfect parent/career balance. You can do it, but you might need a little help. As a parent and small business owner myself, I know exactly what you are going through, and I want to do whatever I can to help you navigate the early days of parenthood while still working towards small business success. This is precisely the kind of situation where having a virtual assistant shines! With a virtual assistant by your side, you can free up so much time and energy that you’ll wonder how you ever got along without one!

Get a Virtual Team Working for You

For most independent small business owners, having a large staff that can pick up the slack while you’re on maternity leave can financially be out of reach. Just think about everything you do over the course of an average day at your business. You answer emails, make phone calls, do your company’s social media, write blogs, and then you do the necessary work that only you can do. But when you have a new baby at home, you might not have the energy to do all of that yourself (and if you do, wow, you’re my new superhero!)

By hiring a virtual assistant to take care of the daily tasks of your business, you can essentially have an entire team working for you. Social media? No problem, it’s written and posted. Blogs? Same. Project management? Everything will be organized and ready. Having a virtual assistant is like having a giant support team but at a fraction of the price!

Create a Sales Funnel to Make the Sale for You

As a small business owner, I know that there’s nothing quite like the feeling of closing a sale. It can take some time and careful client management to guide them from the point where they discover your service to the point where you hold their credit card. As a new parent, you might not be as available to customers as you were before. So how about hiring a virtual assistant to create super-effective online sales funnels to make the sale for you?

A sales funnel is basically the entire in-person salesperson experience, just mapped onto the digital sphere. You make the customer aware of the product through social media or email marketing, you inform them about the product through the use of landing pages, and then you guide them with effective calls-to-action towards your sales page, where they hand their credit card over to your e-commerce system of choice. Just let a virtual assistant set it all up for you!

A Friendly and Experienced Ear

Being a new parent is weird. As wonderful as it is, you’re also dealing with sleep deprivation and this massive change to your entire life. It can sometimes seem difficult to see exactly where your small business fits into your new world. Trust me, I know because I’ve been there.

Sometimes, what you really need is a friendly and experienced ear to help you work through your new situation and discover new solutions to the issues ahead of you. That’s why I believe in the power of coaching.

Just a Few Other, Non-Work Related Tips

Finding time to exercise is difficult enough for a small business owner. Add a baby onto that and you can forget about hitting the gym three times a week! That said, few things are as effective at reducing stress than exercise. Even if it is only for a few minutes a day, doing some light cardio during your day can help calm any nerves and make everything seem a bit more manageable.

And finally, and I sincerely mean this, give yourself a break! What you are doing is remarkable! If there are times when you feel that you aren’t doing enough, or that you’re letting your business slip, or that you just don’t know what you’re doing, I can tell you from experience that everything will be okay. It will come together; you just have to give it some time. A baby changes everything, and you can’t be expected to make that massive adjustment in only a few weeks.
